Actress Marla English, Presque Isle Air Force Base, 1952Contributed by Presque Isle Air Museum
From 1951 to 1954 the 74th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron (F I S) flew F-86, F-89 and F-94 fighter aircraft at Presque Isle AFB. Marla English was a beauty pageant winner and model in the early 1950s. She appeared in several movies from 1954-57, most notably Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window" (1954). Miss English visited Presque Isle Air Force Base in 1952 and autographed the nose of one of the 74th's aircraft with: "To my 'Tiger men' of the 74th F I S Warmest regards on those long, cold alerts. Marla English"
